'Major police incident' amid serious crash on busy road - latest updates

A police cordon is in place near the Haddon Hall pub in Droylsden

North Road in Droylsden has been closed in both directions. Transport for Greater Manchester said there had been a serious road traffic collision. It tweeted: "North Road, Droylsden. Road closed both directions between Palm Street and Edge Lane due a serious RTC. Pictures of the scene shows a large police cordon in place close to the Haddon Hall pub in Haddon Hall Road.



A woman has died and two others seriously injured

Police say a woman and has died and two other women have been seriously injured after a man in his 70s 'lost control of his vehicle'.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said:

A woman has sadly died following a collision on Haddon Hall Road, Droylsden. Officers were called at around 12.15pm today (21 October) to Haddon Hall Road where it is believed that a man in his 70s lost control of his vehicle and collided with three pedestrians. Emergency services attended but despite the best efforts of paramedics a woman - the pedestrian - was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Two further female pedestrians have been taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver has remained at the scene to assist police with their enquiries. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting log number 1383 of 21/10/21. Reports can also be made anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
